Evaluation
System

Every website submitted to Awwwarded is evaluated by an independent jury panel against four fixed criteria — and every score is published openly on the site’s page.

Websites being evaluated on Awwwarded

Evaluating the talent and effort of the best web designers and developers is a challenging task — one that requires the considerable knowledge and experience held by the Awwwarded jury.

Criteria

Four criteria. Fixed weights.

Each criterion is scored from 0 to 10, and the weighted average becomes the final score — calculated to two decimals and published with the complete jury breakdown: Design at 40%, Usability at 30%, Creativity at 20%, and Content at 10%.

Design covers layout, typography, color, and art direction. Usability covers structure, navigation, and accessibility. Creativity covers originality, concept, and execution. Content covers copy, imagery, and overall completeness.

Scoring

Scoring the daily nominees.

Every approved site is assigned to an independent panel of jury members. The panel scales with our active jury pool — as the community grows, so does the number of jurors reviewing each site. The voting window runs up to nine days: five days of initial scoring, extended by re-assigning seats when a juror cannot complete their review. A site is awarded only once its panel reaches the target number of votes, and on large panels the most extreme scores are trimmed automatically to protect the result against outliers.

Submission Process

How to submit your website to Awwwarded.

Once a website is submitted, our team checks that it is complete — a live, publicly accessible URL, accurate credits, and quality visual material — before approving it and sending it to the jury. Because every site is reviewed by hand, publication can take up to a week; during busy periods or weekends it may take a little longer.

Moderation

Every submission is checked by hand against our publication requirements. Approved sites move to the jury — rejected ones come with a clear, specific reason.

Independent jury members review the live website and score all four criteria. The weighted average becomes your final score — calculated to two decimals and published on your site’s page, permanently, alongside the full breakdown.

Honorable Mention certificate
04

Honorable Mention

Sites that finish with an overall jury score of 6.5 or higher receive an Honorable Mention — a public mark of quality between the gallery and the daily award.

Site of the Day certificate
05

Site of the Day

The highest-scoring site of each day — cleared by the daily threshold of 7.5 with its full panel of votes — wins Site of the Day, featured on our homepage and gallery.

Developer Award certificate
06

Developer Award

A separate development jury evaluates the build itself against eight technical criteria — performance and accessibility at 20% each, clean code and responsive design at 15% each, semantics and SEO at 10% each, and web technologies and animations at 5% each. The award is granted once the panel’s votes are complete and the weighted technical score clears 7.

Site of the Month certificate
07

Site of the Month

Each month, the eight highest-scoring Sites of the Day are re-judged by a fresh jury panel in a dedicated round. The winner takes Site of the Month — and, for International members, becomes a candidate for Site of the Year.

Site of the Year certificate
08

Site of the Year

Once the year’s rounds are closed, the International Site of the Month winners are judged one final time. The highest average of the round takes Site of the Year — the platform’s highest honour.
